Born in: Yonkers, New York
Resided in: Rancho Palos Verdes, California

William “Warren” McDermott was born June 9, 1928 in Yonkers, New York to Martha and James McDermott. He arrived home to 154 Ashburton Avenue where he was raised with his two brothers, Jim and Frank, and sister, Mary. Warren attended and graduated from Gorton High School in Yonkers with the class of 1946. After graduation, he began working at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co (PPG Industries) where, in September of 1946, he met his future wife, Ann Severini.

Warren and Ann married on April 24, 1948 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, a block from Warren’s childhood home. They moved to the Bronx and started their family in a small basement apartment before relocating to Carmel, NY near Lake Gleneida. They had six children: Veronica McDermott Brown (Martin), Bill McDermott (Christine), Janice McDermott (deceased), Arlene McDermott Dugan (Rick), Elizabeth McDermott, and Tom McDermott (Anne-Marie).

In 1966, PPG relocated Warren to the Los Angeles area as West Coast Sales Manager. He bought a new house, and the family relocated to coastal California where Warren and Ann would remain. Warren continued with PPG for 25 more years, completing his entire 45-year career with the same company that he started out with as a teenager. He retired in 1991.

Warren enjoyed music, photography, playing golf, learning Italian, traveling internationally, attending daily mass, playing poker with friends. Some of his lifelong hobbies included growing tomatoes, roses, and oranges, and keeping up with current events and the latest technology. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids, road-tripping to see family for the holidays, and welcoming family into his home.

Warren especially loved his dear Ann: she was his joy. In October 2021, he was by Ann’s side when she passed.

Warren experienced 94 years of life, 73 years of marriage, 45 years of work, 30 years of retirement, 6 kids, 12 grandkids, 15 great grandkids, 57 years in the same home, 5 decades attending the same church, and the last year and a half without Ann. Warren died peacefully at his home on the morning of January 28, 2023.

A funeral mass will be held at St. John Fisher Catholic Church on March 11, 2023 at 11:00 am.
