William Seevers Hedges, 78 A loving father and grandfather passed away January 6, 2004 at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, California of prostate cancer and heart failure. Bill was born September 3, 1925 in Garden City, Kansas. He grew up in Pueblo, Colorado. He graduated from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. His extended 37 year career as Flutist began when he was hired by Antal Dorati of the Minneapolis Symphony. The flute section of the Minneapolis Symphony was reviewed repeatedly by the New York Times in their concerts in Carnegie Hall praising the “silvery tones.” One of our fondest memories is of the summer Park Concerts when Emil Niosi and Bill stood up for the piccolo solo in “Stars and Stripes Forever.” He spent his summers playing the flute in the Central City Opera in Colorado. He retired to his little house on the prairie in Pueblo West. Colorado. His heart never left the beauty of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite, brother, George, three daughters, Mary, Barbara, and Jane, five grandchildren, David, Sarah, Kevin, Jennifer, and Daniel, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Private Memorial Service will be held on Greenhorn Mountain in Colorado this summer. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Wildlife Federation or the Zoological Society of San Diego. Bill loved the efforts of these two organizations in the conservation and protection of wildlife and endangered animals.
