Bennett, William Robert, born August 22, 1927, in Aberdeen South Dakota, was a 50 year resident of Southern California and the South Bay. He passed away quietly August 29, 2006 in his Torrance home. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II where he was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service; he also served in the Korean War. Bob worked in the aerospace industry for over 32 years and retired from TRW. He was in charge and instrumental in designing the Control Systems on the Lunar LIMM moon landing during the first Apollo Space program. He received a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California (USC) and a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years Gladys Bennett, sons Robert Barry Bennett, Brett William Bennett, John Blair Bennett, daughter in law Aileen Ying Bennett; six grandchildren: Robert Jedediah Bennett, Adreen Diaz, Jason Dwayne Allison, Micah Marie Allison, Jacob Earl Bennett, Jared Clayborn Bennett, Joshua Lee Holmes and Angela Zhoa Bennett; four great-grandchildren: Ireland Murie Bennett, Robert Liam Bennett, Jason Thomas Allison and Austin James Allison. Also survived by his sister Marye Bowyer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 7, 2006 at Rice Mortuary located at 5310 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, California 90503, with a reception following the service at the Rice Mortuary Lighthouse room. The burial will be at Veterans Administration Riverside National Cemetery on Friday September 8, 2006 at 12:30 P.M.
