March 13, 1933 ~ April 28, 2010
The book of life opened for William (Bill) Adams on March 13, 1933 to the parents of Clarence and Lillian Adams in Los Angeles, California. He was the third child of three born to this union. Preceding him in death are his parents, sister Bernice Smith and brother Leroy Adams.
Bill attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Los Angeles. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in the Korean wartime and received the National Defense Service Medal and good Conduct Medal. Bill was honorably discharged in 1956 and shortly thereafter settled in the Los Angeles area where he married his first wife, Dorothy, and to this union his only child, Rhonda Fay was born.
Bill married his second wife, Doris, in 1969 to whom he was married to for 26 years. There were no children born to this union, however, he helped to raise his three step-children: Derrick, Shirri and Kerry. He was a loving and devoted father to all of his children and they loved him unconditionally.
Bill became an established business owner in the early 70s in south Central Los Angeles. He was fortunate to be an owner of a Jr. Market. He enjoyed talking and 'shooting the breeze' with the neighborhood patrons. If he knew someone was in need, he would gladly provide items at no cost to help them get by. He sold his business in the late 80s and later went to work at Bunge Foods where he retired in 1998.
He loved his jazz music and playing cards or rather 'Bid Whist' with family and friends. Oh, and let's not forget that he also loved his runs to the casino to play the slots. He lived a happy life, full of good music and good times until the Lord called him home.
This chapter of his life ended unexpectedly on April 28, 2010 at the age of 77. He is survived by his children: Rhonda Adams-Rocha, Derrick Richardson, Shirri Richardson-Jackson, Kerry McFolling; Sons-in-law Joseph Rocha, Frank Jackson and Daughter-in-law LaShawn Richardson; Grandchildren: Arcen Rocha, Shanice Rocha, Christopher Richardson, Travale Richardson, Shanae Curl, Brent Harris; and seven great-grandchildren; Niece Pamela Jackson; Nephew Gregory Smith; a very dear cousin Harriett McAfee; and also a host of other family members and friends.
