Whitney Enwemeka Recorded Zoom Service
Whitney Morgan (Sims) Enwemeka was born July 7, 1988 at Centinela Hospital in the “City of Champions,” Inglewood, California at 10 p.m. to the parents of Gregory Sims and Mishon Robinson. Whitney is the oldest of four siblings (Britney Sims, Sydney Sims, Gregory Sims II). As a young child, Whitney was always independent and very helpful to any person she met. These characteristics followed her into her adulthood. Whitney grew up and matriculated through grade school in Los Angeles County. Whitney had so much pride in being a Southern California native. She attended high school at North High in Torrance, California. At North High, Whitney excelled academically and socially where she participated in numerous extracurricular activities. Some of these activity clubs and groups included (FBLA) Future Business Leaders of America, Black Student Union, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Speech, Debate, JROTC, Fashion Club and last but not least Cheerleading. Whitney found joy in being the cheerleading captain and exhibiting school spirit while leading her fellow student body. As she grew up, her loved ones would consider her to be an overachiever and she would tenaciously overcome any obstacle or adversity that came her way.
Whitney was accepted to several collegiate institutions; however, she chose to attend California State University, Fullerton where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnic Studies. She loved college life and every aspect of it. Whitney truly admired her siblings and cousins, especially Demetria due to their common love of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. Whitney became a Zeta in the Spring of 2008 within the Upsilon Kappa Chapter at CSUF with two other fellow members and she continued to wear the zeal of Zeta within her heart ever since. Whitney did not stop at her B.A., she strived for more by obtaining a Master of Science in Social Entrepreneurship at the University of Southern California.
Whitney worked hard in everything she did and took pride and joy in every job she had. One of her most memorable jobs – and one that she will forever be known for as a young adult – is when she was a manager at Hot Dog on a Stick. It was there that she really mastered her managerial skillset. After leaving Hot Dog on a Stick, Whitney worked as a Property Preservation Specialist for Bank of America. This opportunity provided her with a thorough knowledge of the mortgage industry. She relied on this information later in her life when the time came to build/purchase her family home with Sombiri. She then found her calling in helping young people make their college dreams come true when she began working at USC as an Assistant Director. Whitney was multi-faceted during her time at USC. Seasonally she read admission applications for the Rossier School of Education and she worked for the USC Bovard Scholars summer program where she was an Admissions Coach. The experience and knowledge she obtained while working at USC and studying for her Masters led to her founding her own company, I’mPossible College Admission Counseling where she has helped countless students get into college. A snippet of her work can be seen in her contribution to Ethan Sawyer’s book, “College Admission Essentials”. She touched so many lives within the higher education realm and beyond.
In the fall of 2012, Whitney met the love of her life, Sombiri. The two dated for a little under three years when Sombiri decided to pop the question. They became engaged in August 2015. They wed at a beautiful seaside location in sunny San Diego, California on June 26, 2016. They’ve traveled around the world together and made countless memories. The two welcomed their oldest daughter, Ozioma Nkiru Enwemeka on April 10, 2020. Followed by Umeh Isoja Enwemeka, born on October 4, 2021. In addition to her passion for her family, Whitney enjoyed cooking. Her favorite thing to do was to “pin” various recipes on Pinterest. She loved sharing the meals that she made with family and friends. She also enjoyed fine dining and attending shows by her favorite artists, mainly Beyonce. She was proud to be a member of the Beyhive and we mustn’t forget her incredibly adorable affection for Hello Kitty.
Whitney is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Roger Sims Jr., her maternal grandmother Hattie Robinson, paternal uncle Danny Hensley and close family friend, Mike Jenkins.
Whitney leaves behind her husband Sombiri Enwemeka, their two daughters Ozioma Nkiru Enwemeka and Umeh Isoja Enwemeka, her father Gregory Sims, her mother Mishon Robinson, her paternal grandmother Bernice Duckett, her in-laws Grace Enwemeka, Chukuka Enwemeka and Efam (Roselyn) Enwemeka (step mother), her siblings (Britney Sims, Sydney Sims and Gregory Sims II), great-uncles, great-aunts, uncles, aunts, nieces, cousins, friends, sorority sisters and fraternity brothers.
Whitney is loved by so many. Her infectious smile and laughter will forever remain in all our hearts. She will be dearly missed. Her light will shine in all of us especially in her two baby girls.
