Violet
Runje, Violet, an 18 year resident of Torrance, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 in Torrance. Born in Djakovo, Croatia, Violet was 47 when she died. Violet was a member of St. Lawrence Martyr Church. When Violet was 29 years old she brought her two children to Germany to escape the Civil war in 1991 in then named Yugoslavia, now Croatia. They arrived to Germany and lived in a basement below a hotel. Violet then moved with her children to San Pedro. She soon got a job at a jewelry store in the Del Amo Mall. She eventually became a manager of several jewelry stores, learned to speak and write English, attained political asylum, then permanent residence, and finally attained citizenship. She went to college and got a B.A. in accounting, became an accountant, and bought a pretty home for herself and her two children in the Walteria area of Torrance. Violet is survived by parents Anton and Slavica Kraljic of Croatia, Daughter, Lillian Runje of Torrance, CA, Son, Marin Runje, and Ex-Husband, Donnie Hyatt of Torrance, CA. A gathering of family & friends will be held at McCormick Redondo Beach Chapel on Sunday, December 20, 2009 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. The funeral Mass will be held at St. Lawrence Martyr Church on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
