Veritas Lee Harris (Deah) was born February 20, 1928 to the parents of Harrison Flanders and Katie Howell Flanders in Hinds County, Mississippi.She married Aaron Burr Hicks in 1942. To that union was born Delores and Jacqueline in Mississippi. In 1945 the family moved to Los Angeles, CA seeking better opportunities in employment. Later they had five more beautiful children, Michael, Edna, Brenda, Marcus and Aaron III. In 1953 she was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel and ministered throughout the greater Los Angeles area.She later became a successful entrepreneur venturing into many business opportunities throughout her lifetime. She opened her home to those who needed help, never turning anyone away. The words "can't do" were not part of her vocabulary and this quality was instilled in all of her children and grandchildren.Deah was loved and respected by whomever she came in contact with; she was like a mother to all. She had two children who preceded her in death, Michael Bernard Hicks and Delores Katherine Hicks.She leaves behind one sister, Merits Maria Flanders Coney. Five children, Jacqueline Veronica Hicks Armstrong, Edna Laverne Hicks, Brenda Faye Hicks Bright, Marcus Burnell Hicks and Aaron Burr Hicks III, Regina Diane Winston Hicks (daughter-in-law). Seventeen grandchildren; Catherine Comeaux, Kelvin Armstrong, Kim Armstrong Tolbert, Michele Hicks Thompson, Tracy Mischeaux Walker, Monee Mischeaux (deceased) , Jennine Bright Reid, Angela Bright Kennedy, Anthony Bright, Elaine Bright, William Bright II, Daylon Hicks (deceased), Marcus Hicks II, Marsha Hicks, Michael Hicks, Travon Hicks, Yolanda Hicks and Valencia Hicks. She also leaves behind twenty-seven great grandchildren, thirteen great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
