Vana Lee Liston, at the age of 97 years, passed away on July 19, 2016 in Gardena, CA in the arms of her daughter. Vana Lee was born in Dennison, Texas on May 6, 1919 to Walter and Margarette Rose Jones. She married Russell Liston on January 19, 1946 and had four children, one of whom passed away at two months of age. Vana Lee was active in the Church of Christ throughout her life and got up early each morning to read her Bible for an hour. Her greatest loves in life were attending church services, reading the Bible and being with her family. She was married to her husband, Russell, for 63 years until his death five years ago. She was devoted to him and their children her entire life. Their happiness was her joy. Vana Lee was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease approximately 20 years ago, and for the last four years of her life had the privilege of living at Grace Care Home in Gardena where she received nurturing, compassionate, and loving care. At least twice a week Vana's daughter, Twila, took her on adventures throughout the area. They went to Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Long Beach, Aquarium, Santa Monica Pier, and numerous other places. Vana Lee loved to be outside and explore her surroundings. She loved flowers, particularly roses, and before she was disabled by her Alzheimer's could often be found tending her rose garden. When they were in bloom, her husband, Russell, would cut the roses on a regular basis and bring them to her. The kitchen always had the sweet aroma of fresh cut flowers. Vana Lee is preceded in death by her husband Russell Liston and their infant son Dale Ralph Liston. She is survived by her daughters Twila (Bob) Elliott, Dawna Bradley and son Dane Liston (Claudia); grandchildren Sean (Laura), Erik (Summer), Kaare (Doug), Kevin, Chloe, Perry and Misha; and great grandchildren Ashlyn, Breanna, Reese, Haley, Hannah, Tierney and Lito. A funeral service will be held at Rice Mortuary in Torrance on Wednesday, July 29th at 10:00 a.m.
