Timothy W. Thornton, of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away on September 22, 2014 at the age of 78. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Catherine Thornton and his first wife Carol Jean Thornton. Tim was born on May 14, 1936 in Butte, Montana. He graduated from Butte Central Boys High School and went on to graduate from the University of Gonzaga in Spokane, Washington. After graduation, Tim was employed by the U.S. Treasury Department for 36 years. Tim is survived by his loving wife Carol J. Thornton of 18 years. Tim is lovingly remembered by his children: Timothy S. Thornton, Mary E. Sullivan and Dean C. Thornton; his grandchildren: Nichole D. Jacobs, Aidan C. Thornton and Emily N. Thornton; as well as his great grandchildren: Nolan C. Jacobs and Daisy J. Jacobs. Tim will be remembered by all for his generosity, kindness, compassion, humor, and his wonderful friendships. He was admired for his strength and determination, hard work, dependability, and thoughtfulness. Tim was an avid sports fan with a particular fondness for football. His favorite team was the USC Trojans. Tim enjoyed barbequing for his family, reading his many magazine and newspaper subscriptions, and decorating his home for the holidays. A visitation will be held at Rice Mortuary, 2310 Torrance Boulevard, Torrance, California 90503 on Thursday, October 2nd from 5pm- 9pm. The funeral mass will be held James Catholic Church, 415 Vincent Street, Redondo Beach, California 90277 on Friday, October 3rd at 10am. Interment to follow at Pacific Crest Cemetery, 2701 182nd Street, Redondo Beach, CA 90278.
