Thomas Earl Meeks, a 55 year resident of Torrance, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013. Born in Mornore, LA, Thomas was 81 when he died. Tom grew up in Louisiana and moved to California to join the Navy and served for the duration of the Korean War. Some of the things he enjoyed were big band music, dancing, collecting elephants, musicals, and talking to people. Tom made friends wherever he went. While working for Union Bank he met the love of his life, Violet R. Meeks. He also worked for the LA Times for over 30 years. Tom was survived by wife, Violet Meeks of Torrance, CA; daughter, Pamela (Tom) Schofield of Danville, CA; daughter, Suzanne (Michael) Muaina of Mapleton, UT; son Thomas (Melynie) Meeks Spanish Fork, UT; and daughter Kimberly (Rob) Hanley of Garden Grove, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Funeeta Meeks. The service will be held at Rice Mortuary on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 10:00 am. A reception follows in Rice's Lighthouse Reception Room until 1:00 pm. Burial will be at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.
