Theodore Roy Rice
November 19-1921 - December 14, 2006
Born November 19, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois, the 5th child of Martin (Pat)Delroy and Livena Mary Rice, Ted passed on with true honor and dignity on December 14th, 2006. Ted was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters (Martin, Marion, Richard, Margaret and "Teenie") and by his ex-wife and faithful friend companion (Marilyn Rice) and son (Robert "Tay" Rice). Ted is survived by his daughter, Kathleen, son-in-law, James and Grandson, Joshua Tay McLeod and numerous neices, nephews and friends in addition by his faithful caregiver, Josie.
He worked at an early age with his father as a printing apprentice and continued to work in the printing and ink business after the war and throughout his life, retiring from his own printing and ink company in the late 70s.. Ted left highschool early to join the Navy and fought honorably in World War II on the USS Mascoma. Both he and his wife, Marilyn, were scoutmasters for the Boy Scouts in the 1950s. Ted was an avid camper,, fisherman, golfer, painter and was most notably known for his wonderful, exciting stories - most of which were so outrageous - but amazingly true (perhaps a little exaggerated). He lived on his boat "The Jumper" for 27 years in San Pedro, eventually moving to Leisure World in Seal Beach. His family will miss his joy of surprise and excitement, continual mischief and sometimes exhausitng, but exhilerating stories. He taught us the fine art of working hard yet taking the time to enjoy life just the same. He loved people and making them laugh most of all. He will be missed by all that knew him and will never be forgotten. .
