Thelma "Doreen" McDonald Kemp Heaton, a 13 year resident of St. George, UT passed away on Friday, March 16, 2012 in Oakhurst, CA. Born in Oakley, KS, Doreen was 88 when she died. Doreen was baptized September 23, 1967, by Darrell DeWayne Brown, Elder, and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, September 23, 1967 by Gill S. Van Wagoner, Elder. Doreen's careers varied from waitress, retail, bowling score keeper, Douglas Aircraft, managing 8 unit apartments, to CEO of Kemps Car Transfer Co., Inc. Personal interests consisted of LDS Missionary work, researching genealogy, and enjoying her granddaughters, great grandchildren, family and friends. Her hobbies included making ceramics, dancing, traveling, hiking, shopping, canning, cooking, reading, and playing cards. Doreen was very active in civic activities. She volunteered many hours of work at the Temple and LDS historical sites. She worked in the primary and taught eight-year-olds the gospel of Jesus Christ. As a member of the Centinela Council #211, she devoted twenty years to the Degree of Anona helping many young girls ages eight to eighteen. In addition to her strong passion of the Mormon religion and all the beautiful people she loved dearly, she was bonkers over Betty Boop. She made so many Betty Boop ceramics, collected and dressed in miscellaneous Betty Boop items that the local newspaper wrote an article about her. She was passionate about shopping, dancing, sight-seeing, and spending time with best friends Phyllis Heaton and Rosamond Russ. Doreen was an enthusiastic fan of Jazz, Utah's basketball team. Doreen is survived by son, Howard (Rita) Kemp, of Raymond, CA; 3 granddaughters, Kelly (Nathan) Duffy of Simi Valley, CA, Kimberly (Edgar) Kemp-Lozano of Riverside CA, Kory Kemp of Riverside, CA; 5 great grandchildren Brendon, Matthew, Alaina Duffy, Nicholas, Cynthia Lozano; 2 brothers Fred Eugene McDonald of Phoenix, AZ, Junior "Gaylord McDonald of Borrego Springs, CA; 2 nephews Gary McDonald, Rodger McDonald; 5 nieces Geneva Rarick, Barbara Wolf, Glenda, Linda, Darlene Nease; and cousin Arlene Barton. She was preceded in death by spouses Horace "Barney" Kemp, C.B Ross, James "Keith" Heaton; parents, Charles and Phoebe McDonald; siblings Dorothy "Pauline" Campbell, and Freeda Drusella McDonald. A gathering of family and friends will be held at White and Day Mortuary in Manhattan Beach on Tuesday March 27 from 4:00 until 8:00pm. The Service will be held at Pacific Crest Cemetery Chapel on Wednesday March 28 at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach.
