Ted C. Petersen It is with great sadness that the family of Ted C. Petersen announces his passing on July 18, 2011, at the age of 84 years. Ted was born on November 21, 1926 in Clinton, Iowa. Ted will be lovingly remembered by Lois, his wife of 58 years and his children, Debra, Janet (Tom), David, and Julie (Art). Ted will also be loved and missed deeply by his ten grandchildren, Elizabeth (Derrick), Rebecca, Benjamin (Melissa), Courtney, Sam, Scott, Caleb, Daniel, Lily, and Natalie, along with his great-grandchild, Luke. Preceding him in death his beloved parents August Petersen & Gladys Scofield Petersen, and sister, Phyllis Sullivan (Jim). Ted served in the Navy at the end of World War II. He obtained his electrical and mechanical engineering bachelor’s degrees, investing in his 34-year career at Hughes Aircraft. His children know him as a creative and resourceful problem-solver, wood-worker, and lover of bike rides along the beach. To his grandkids, he was known as the best hugger and enthusiastic encourager of their lives; they cherished time with him riding bikes, jumping on the trampoline, tickling, playing in the sandbox, and trips to the park. A viewing in honor of Ted will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at the McCormick Mortuary, 1998 Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach, CA 90277 with his son-in-law and grandson officiating. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Ted to the K.I.M. Care Ministry at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 706 Knob Hill Ave., Redondo Beach, CA 90277.

  2. I never met Ted, but working with Elizabeth, I felt I knew him a little. She talked about how much Ted meant to her and the importance of family. She shared memories of her trip to see him last year and had planned her trip to see him later this month.
