Sophie Raye, a 56 year resident of Redondo Beach, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, February 20, 2012, at the age of 99. Born in Hungary, Sophie immigrated to Canada as a young girl with her parents Helen and Paul Bekesky. She immigrated to America, in 1939, with her husband where they raised their four children. Sophie was devoted to her husband and family who always came first in her life. Sophie was an avid gardener who loved growing her flowers as well as an avid reader. She will be remembered and greatly missed for her generous spirit and all the love, warmth and kindness she gave to all her family and friends. Sophie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, of 65 years, Leslie Raye and her two sons, Robert L. Raye and Ronald W. Raye. She is survived by her daughters Jane Dean and Dorothy Campbell; daughter-in-law Joy Raye; son-in-law John Campbell; her granddaughters Debbie Dean-Cross and Joann Feige; her grandsons Steven Raye, Terry Dean, Tim Campbell and Jason Campbell; and her eleven great- grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will be held at White and Day Colonial Mortuary on Sunday March 4 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The service will be held at the Pacific Crest Cemetery on Monday March 5 at 11:00 am. A reception follows at Rice Mortuary in the Lighthouse Reception Room from 12:30 pm until 2:30 pm. Burial will follow at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach.
