Sister Mary Dominic Chacon, C.S.J., age 96, passed away on Friday February 25, 2022 at St. John of God Retirement Home in Los Angeles, CA. Born August 5, 1925, one of thirteen children in her family, in Los Angeles California, a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet since March 15, 1942.
Sister Mary Dominic’s desire was to serve people in need. She celebrated her 75th Jubilee as a Sister of St. Joseph in 2017 and almost made it to her 80th Jubilee to be celebrated on March 12th. For thirty years, Sister cooked in hospitals, and high school convents of the Los Angeles Province. During these years, Sister Mary Dominic showed an awareness of needy persons. She enjoyed sharing stories about early misadventures such as giving away chickens without permission. She founded St. Jude’s Residence for Women where she welcomed, housed, fed and offered spiritual guidance to women who had been abused. Her life is an example of loving service to the “dear neighbor” whatever the need, living with hope and trust.
She is survived by her sisters Lucy Ramierz and Flavia Mercedes and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by all the rest of her siblings – Michael, Abel, Salvador, Raymond, Margaret, Ernestine, Joseph, Mario, Arthur, and Alex.
A Service of Remembrance will be held March 30th on ZOOM at 2 PM and Interment will be March 29th at 10 AM at Holy Cross Cemetery.
