Born in: Cornell, IL,
Resided in: Santa Monica, California
Joyce was one of four children born on a large farm in Charleston, Illinois. When Joyce was a junior in high school, her mom and dad took her to Tucson, Arizona hoping that a drier climate would help her through some health issues. There she met the CSJs at Salpointe High School. Her health did improve and she entered the CSJ Community following graduation in 1954.
From 1957 to 1974, Joyce taught every grade level and served as principal. Following time studying at St Louis University, Joyce served in campus ministry, formation, and spiritual direction. She also ministered in Province leadership as Regional and Provincial. She said, “My religious life has truly been a fulfilling, growthful experience of God’s and my Sisters’ abundant love for me.”
Joyce shared life graciously; she had a way of listening that was profound and affirming. Her presence in a group brought laughter and depth. We will miss her. May she rest in peace.
