Sister Anne Lorraine Mahlmeister

Sister Anne Lorraine Mahlmeister,  C.S.J., age 92 passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at St. John of God Retirement Home in Los Angeles, California. Baptized Veronica Imelda, Sister was born in Chula Vista, California, the youngest of seven children.

Early in her life she enjoyed the attention and care of the Sisters of Nazareth as an infant and student. She attended Our Lady of Peace Academy in San Diego where she met the Sisters of St Joseph. Following graduation in 1948, she entered the Community.

Sister Anne Lorraine ministered for more than 50 years as an Early Childhood Educator. Nearly 22 of her 27 grade school teaching years were in the first grade. She was something of a pioneer in the field of early childhood education, leading the way for others. She taught with the hope of establishing a positive environment to help children with self-esteem.

She is survived by her nieces Patty Sassenburg, Sue Anne Leddol, Jerry Urb and nephew-in-law Jack Urb.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on zoom, Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 2:00 pm. A link will be available by contacting Smninteman@csjla.org . Graveside service will be held Tuesday March 7, 2023 at 10:00AM at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, CA.
