Shirley Chaplin Shirley Chaplin passed away Tuesday, October 28th, 2008 after 80 years of making her family and friends smile. She was Religious Education Director at American Martyrs' Church in Manhattan Beach, a Master Catechist, a Lector, and a recipient of the Benemerenti Medal conferred upon her by Pope John Paul II for her long exceptional service to the Catholic Church. She currently was retired from American Martyrs' Church in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. In her retirement years she acted as the Secretary for the Harbor Chapter of the Teamster Retiree Association. Shirley is survived by her husband, Patrick Chaplin; daughter, Cathy Alvarez; daughter, Linda Seydor; son, Tim Chaplin; son, Patrick Chaplin; grandson, TJ Chaplin; grandson, Hayley Chaplin; granddaughter, TJ Chaplin; grandson, Tyler Chaplin; grandson Taylor Chaplin; nephews, Paul Peter and Phil Allen; nephews, Ken and Steve Chaplin; brother-in-law, William Chaplin; brother, Jim Chaplin; unofficially adopted son, Steve Radl; and far too many people who loved and were loved by her to list here. She was fondly known around Manhattan Beach, by those who knew and loved her, as "The Frog Lady." Due to her vast collection of frogs of every make and model. Funeral mass and services will be held at American Martyrs' Church, 624 15th Street, Manhattan Beach, on November 8th, 2008 at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or American Martyrs' Church in her name.
