Shirley Pierce passed away on Monday, February 27, 2006. She was born December 28, 1923, to Mark Grover and Vivian Lucille Riggin in Glasgow, Missouri. Shirley grew up in Missouri and graduated from the University of Oklahoma, Tulsa, with a degree in Journalism. She moved to California and worked at the Ventura School for Girls until she married Ray William Pierce in 1948. Shirley and Ray moved to Redondo Beach in 1952. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Pierce, her brother, Warren Riggin, and sister, Dee Wolf. She was active in the community. Her activities included serving as Election Supervisor for thirty years, President of Toastmasters, President of Tulita School PTA, and as President and lifetime member of the Diana's. She was an avid bridge player and played for American Martyrs, The Mission Bridge Group, The Neptunian Club, the Diana's, and Northpark Seniors. She is survived by her loving children, Max and Linda Pierce of Playa Del Rey, James and Marylynne Pierce of Fredricksburg, Virginia, and Michele and Eric Edwards of Redondo Beach, grandchildren Jason and Shannon Pierce, sister Rosalie Nicholson of Kernersville North Carolina, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. We already miss her. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 10, at 3pm at White & Day Colonial Mortuary, 901 Torrance Blvd, Redondo Beach.
