Sharon L. McCormick-Kreig December 18, 1946- January 12, 2017 Sharon McCormick-Kreig passed away just a few weeks past her 70th birthday of complications from a recent diagnosis of leukemia, compounded by a severe pneumonia. A twenty year resident of Manhattan Beach, Sharon was born in Lakehurst, New Jersey, and raised in Niantic, Connecticut. She was a graduate of the Lawrence & Memorial School of Nursing, receiving her BS from the University of California – Los Angeles and her MA from Cal State Long Beach. She worked in various nursing positions in Michigan, and at St. Vincent's Hospital in Los Angeles, and was a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Neuro and Trauma at UCLA and UCI. She also taught through the National Institute of Health. With retirement she devoted her energies to her beloved family--her husband Tom, and beautiful daughter Kaitlin (Katie). She found several avenues for her interest in the arts. She volunteered to present the "Young At Art" program at Pennekamp Elementary and Manhattan Beach Middle School. She studied painting and became an outstanding quilter. She was a member of the South Bay Quilt Guild and the Moonlight Quilters Club. Her hand quilting was an inspiration, and like her meticulous stitches, she was even, consistent, and unpretentious. She was also a talented interior designer, and renovated her home so successfully that her contractors asked to employ her designs in other homes. Her acquaintances of many years have lost a wise counsel, a kind and understanding friend, and a cheer leader. She will be dearly missed by those privileged to know her well. Sharon is survived by her beloved husband Tom, daughter Kaitlin (Katie) and brother Mike McCormick. Services will be held at American Martyrs Church, 624 15th St., Manhattan Beach, CA on Monday, January 23rd at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project.
