Hill, Samuel David, a 55 year resident of the South Bay, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2006 in Lawndale. Born in Winston Salem, NC, Samuel was 86 when he died. Samuel had served in the Army during World War II. He retired from McDonnell Douglas after 31 years of service, from 1950-1982. He had many interests in life: Ford cars, boats, markmanship, riding motorcycles, camping, and traveling extensively throughout the U.S. He was an early member of the El Camino Civic Association. Sam was also one of the founders of the Tri-Park Little League, including constructing the fields and coaching. He was also instrumental in developing the softball program for girls. Samuel was a scout leader for Lawndale's Boy Scout Troop 765 for many years throughout the 1960's and 1970's. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Hill of Lawndale, CA; Son, David (Karen) Hill of Pleasant Hill, CA; Son, James Hill of San Diego, CA; Daughter, Nancy Acosta of Belfair, WA; Son, Stephen (Kristian) Hill of Arcata, CA; Son, Michael Hill of Boise, ID; Son, Roger (Eileen) Hill of Long Beach, CA; Sister, Juanita Anderson of Winston Salem, NC; Sister, Eva (Hugh) Wells of Winston Salem, NC; and ten grandchildren: Ava, Susanna, Benjamin, Nadia, Bridget & Denis Hill; Matt, Anna & Sarah Acosta; and Jonathan Giles. The Service will be held at White & Day Mortuary in Manhattan Beach on Thursday November 9, 2006 at 8am. Burial will follow at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside at 11:45am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society.
