Salaiyur
Salaiyur ("Samy") Thirumalaisamy May 15, 1935 to June 21, 2008 A 5 year resident of Manhattan Beach, Samy passed away on Saturday, June 21 peacefully at home during his sleep after a struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Originally from a small village in India, Samy was one of the first from his region to immigrate to the United States. After receiving a scholarship from the University of Notre Dame, he came to the U.S. in 1959 and completed his Masters degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Samy worked as an engineer for close to 40 years in the Boston area on projects that included the Navy Seawolf and invented the Absorption Dynamometer, which was granted a patent in 1989. He is survived by his loving wife, Mani, son T.K. Pillan, daughter-in-law Daya, and granddaughters Shriya and Avanthi, all of Manhattan Beach.
