  1. Grandma, we will miss your smiles, laughter and love that you brought to each and everyday. You were such an amazing woman. I am so glad that you were a part of my life and to me you truly were a grandmother. Always & Forever in my heart, Kelly (aka: Sunshine)

  2. All my love and prayers for the family. My gratitude for having known and shared many times with Ruth. She will be missed as a Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend. She touched more lives than we know. They didn’t call her Smiley for nothing, it was the truth. She trully shared with the lost and down trodden. She lifted up and helped people most of us just pass by everyday without a thought to their well being or circumstances. She cared and got involved. I’m sure the guards at work will miss the sodas, mini-church will miss the chicken. For me, I will miss her giving attitude. She gave way beyond her measure for years. I’m as confident as there is a God in heaven, that she is there with Him now.

  3. Mom, I love you very much. You were my best friend and Mom. I will miss you all the days of my life, but I will rest in the Lord knowing that I will see your smile again, in glory. You loved and helped everyone, and always offered forgiveness and compassion to all. You certainly taught me that love and unconditional acceptance is the glow that lit your heart. May I learn from your example, always and forever. Your daughter and best friend, Cheryl.

  4. Ruth was a big influence in my life. She was my teacher, my boss, my aunt as well as a friend. She helped me find my career path and learn what I was capable of accomplishing. She meant a lot to me. I loved her smile, her laugh and great sense of humor. Heaven is in for some fun times. My love and prayers to the family as always.

  5. Ruth was not only the best Mother-in-law, she was also my buddy, confidant, and always had my back. If there is a better place than here, she is in it. The shortest verse in the bible is “Jesus wept”. We all wept when Ruth went home to God. However, we can’t help but to smile and laugh when we think about all the fun and goofy times we were fortunate spend with her. She always had a smile on her face and always brought a smile to everyone she came in contact with. We love you and miss you.

  6. Cheryl, family and friends, your Mom will be greatly missed. She always had a smile & laughter that was contagious. Bless you all.

  7. Ruthie my friend I’m going to miss you a whole lot. I lost an amazing friend but I know that the angels are rejoycing with your presence and your unforgattable smile. You were more than a friend to me, we spent so many good times togheter between laughing and sometimes why not crying. You always encouraged me to keep going whenever I felt down. Your are always going to be remembered for your kidnness and unconditional love you shared with others. You thaught me many valuable things one of them to always be kind to others because that other person could be an angel and I may not know it. One of your joys was to make all others happy and you gave whatever you could to make it happen. I will miss your laugh and those spontaneous moments when you will always come up with something silly to make us have a good laugh (is actually kind of boring and too quiet without you). Ruth my friend I say good bye for now until we meet again. May you rest in peace up in heaven surrounded by Glory of God and his angels. From Julian, Arianna and Juliancito we want to let you know we love you, we will miss you and you will be in our hearts forever. You just had that special touch that left a mark on everyone you knew. I thank God for giving the opportunity of knowing a wonderful friend like you. Love Your Friend Elda Villaescusa

  8. Smiley(she will always be Smiley to me) was one of the most compassionate people that I know, when it came to helping others she walked the walk, she will be greatly missed.

  9. Cheryl, Cindy and Jimmie, I just want U all to know that your Mom (Smiley) did so much for our family and we are all greatful for her kindness. When we (Patsy and I) went w/your family to San, Jose, the Golden Gate Bridge, China Town, Pomona Fair and I’ll never forget how much fun it was. Working together at Hawthorne Memorial, your Mom and Bill, what great times. I’m so happy that we grew up together and your Mom/Family will always be have a special place in my heart. I’ll see you on Saturday. Love, Linda

  10. Mom, you have always been and will always be a mom to me. You were there in the perplexing teenage years for Cheryl and I, despite all our antics, the discipline you dealt was always with a light heart. You humored us by allowing us to make the “OUCH” car anything but discreet. That was the first car I remember ever driving solo, your trust in us never faltered. Your fun loving spirit always cheered me up even during the hair raising Emergency vehicle pursuits, the never ending Memorial Hospital soap operas and the unforgettable Candy Stripper capers. Despite your fear of becoming a pseudo grandma, you were there through the births and growth of my 1st two children. I’m sorry the distance has kept me away far too long. Although, these memories and many more are forever burned in my brain, so will the love I’ve always held for you in my heart. I know you are in a better place. Smiley will forever remain smiling upon those of us left behind. I’ll miss you and never forget you. I’ll Love you Always Mom – OXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOOXXOXOOXOOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

  11. What’s up grandma Ruth, I hope your having a great time in your new pain free paradise in the sky. I miss you already! But I know your with me and in my heart everyday. I thank you for the kindness that you have shown me throught the years and for loving me like I was your granddaughter and not just a step granddaughter. I love you!

  12. Dear Cheryl & Rick, please accept my and my mother’s condolences on passing away your sweet mother, Ruth. I’ve read here and known from the obituary that she had achieved a life purposes more than enough. Not everybody in this life is survived by 3 children, 4 grandchildren and even a great grandchild… I didn’t know her nickname was ‘Smiley’, and was not surprised too much, because how else should she be called? I spent just a year with your family, and I cannot remember her face, without a smile on it, longer than a couple of minutes! She had always made me to recall my own Grandma who was passed away not long ago, so I loved her specially. I keep, and always will, the gifts and souvenirs for me: the dolphins from a Redondo Beach Pier’s store, and the lamp she bought for my Birthday – remember it, Cheryl? 🙂

  13. I will miss Ruth so much. She was so fun to be around . We would laugh so much. She is a sweet and wonderful person. Love you Ruth I know you are with the Lord.

Her love and joy shined from her face, lighting up the room and faces with her smile, joy of singing and infectious laugh. We will all miss her so much. Our heartfelt prayers and sympathy to all her family. “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted”, Psalm 34:18. With much love from our family,

  16. Cindy and Ron, we are so sorry for your loss. We will miss Ruth, the chats we would have across the fence, and her infectious laugh. What a beautiful picture of her!

  17. I met Smiley in 1977. We worked together at Hawthorne Hospital for 11 years, where she taught me everything I know about patient accounts. She loved to teach new workers and never held back at helping you be your best. She was always fun to be around as well. I will always remember the impact she had on me as a worker and thank God for bringing her into my life. To her family, may the God of all comfort, comfort you in your time of bereavement. Will remember you in my prayers.

  20. Mom, it has been about three weeks since you went home. I have missed your smile and talking to you in the morning. Your grandchildren miss you, especially during Easter – those baskets you would make for every one of them, every year no matter how old they were. You were thoughtful, caring, giving, playful, joyous and I love and miss you very much. I know you would not like all the tears, but it is hard. So I still say good morning to you through our Lord, and I know you both are looking after us. With great love, your daughter Cheryl XOXOXO

  21. It has now been two months today that you have been in glory. I still miss you very much, but I know you are having fun where you are. I miss our talks, love and compassion and all the help you gave me with the kids. Just have to drop a note to let you know how much we all love and miss you. Your daughter, Cheryl

  22. Your mom was one of the truly great ladies of our time, she had a huge impact on my life. She was always supportive, and made me feel valued. I am so sorry for your loss. The world is a darker place with out her..
