Ruben
With deepest sorrow, we announce that Ruben Anthony Canava, 48, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 18, 2020, in Torrance, CA. Ruben was born in Taylor, TX to Ruben R. and Rosie Canava and was affectionately known by his family as Boy. He moved to San Diego, CA in 1986, where he met his wife and graduated from Monte Vista High School. He and his wife later moved to Torrance, CA where they raised their family. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Lakers. He enjoyed fishing, sunsets, a competitive game of pool or darts, and loved to joke around. Ruben had a talent for repairing just about anything. He found enjoyment in DIY projects around the house and at work. He was known for his infectious smile, and his kind heart. Ruben was genuine and humble and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He considered California his home but took pride in his Texas roots and a bit of that southern twang could still be heard in him! Ruben had an aura about him that others were naturally drawn to. It was evident in the many friends he had. Ruben is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, LaVonne Canava and their two sons, Jordan (29) and Jared (21) Canava, of Torrance, CA; his mother Rosie Canava of Round Rock, TX; his brother Fortino (Sue) Canava, of Denver, CO; and his sisters Carmen Williams, of Georgetown, TX, Lindy (Joe) Leos, of Temple, TX, Nora Canava (Jorge), of Round Rock, TX, Christina Canava, of Austin, TX and Maggie Canava (Andrew), of Kyle, TX; his loving In-laws; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends. He is pre-deceased by his father Ruben R. Canava. It brings us comfort knowing Ruben is home with our Lord Jesus Christ, ‘probably on a big fishing boat with his dad living his best life’. We LOVE and MISS you so much Ruben and your memory will live on in all of our hearts forever. Flowers or donations can be sent to 2670 W. 235th St. Unit D, Torrance, CA 90505.

  1. Ruben is the first closest family member that has been taken from me. He may have been just my brother in law, but I love him as my brother. He was a very generous, loving, caring, helpful person. His smile lit up the room, smiled ear to ear. My heart goes out to my sister/his wife and my nephews, along with his mother and siblings. I want you all to know that I am here for you guys, even if it’s just to sit and listen to all the stories about Ruben. I love you, brother! May you rest peacefully with your dad. You will never be forgotten! (still hear you calling my name Angelllla)

  2. I only Saw Ruben a few times but his smile says it all. Hugs to all. May God’s ever lasting love comfort you.

We will truly miss your gentle demeanor and quiet ways. l will carry in my heart the fondest memories of a loving and always respectful nephew. I pray that the Lord will watch over La Vonne and your boys and your mom and siblings and their families as well. May His peace surround your loved ones and bring comfort and a new joy to all the lives you’ve touched and the lasting memory of a fine young man.
