ROE SPENCER RAMSAY,passed away April 23, 2003 in a Long Beach hospital . He was a true native Californian born in Los Angeles on December 27, 1931. Spence turned his talented mind and hands to many endeavours...all of which involved family, community and building life-enhancing memories. Among his many beneficiaries is the Torrance-South Bay Family YMCA. He designed and implemented the telephone fund raising campaign for the
the Family Y. A model still in use today, this campaign enabled our local YMCA to be at the lead of all similar efforts in the whole country. Spence's fondness for his own children and those of other Y families, led him to leadership positions on the various boards of management and involvement in many Y activities from Indian Guides to personnel and human resource matters. Ever curious and inventive, Spence spent many years in the area of engineering...a penchant for the technical and organizational powered his career along the path of the aerospace industry and, of late, into broadcasting audio engineering with his son. Another recipient of his service and fealty was the United States Air Force in which he served with distinction and honor. In later years, Spence grew especially fond of Bishop Montgomery High School and never missed an opportunity to enhance the stature of the school. Boundless energy, great physical strength, take-it-to-the-bank dependability, love of family and humankind...these are the hallmarks of Spence and from them comes his loving and energetic legacy to his family and the community at large...''Follow me guys...we'll get it done''. Left to mourn his passing are his devoted and loving wife, Sarah J. (Daniello) Ramsay, his son, Scott (and wife Kimberly) of Redondo Beach, CA, and his daughter, Stacey Ramsay of Torrance. Spence will be deeply missed by the family circle which also includes brothers Warren Ramsay of Columbia, CA and Dennis Ramsay of Fort Worth, TX, sisters, Carol Ramsay of Vancouver, WA and Susan Ramsay of Big Bear, CA. and his aunt, May (Mrs. Jerry) Miles of Solvang, CA. He is the blessed grandfather of Decker and Keaton Ramsay. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 28, 2003 at 11:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 25511 Eshelman Avenue, Lomita, CA 90717. Private inurnment.
