Robert Franklin Sowell died Sunday, March 25, 2007 at the age of 83, gently passing as his family prayed at his side. He left this gift of peace and kindness to his wife of 51 years, Martha, daughters; Susan Engler, Jennifer Fitzmorris and Jacqueline Sowell, grandchildren; Joseph, Miriam, Elizabeth, Ellen, Scott and Paige, and his extensive extended family. Bob was a decorated war veteran recognized for his valor in Work War II serving at the Battle of the Bulge, where he received a Bronze Star for his actions. Severely wounded in action, he was awarded a Purple Heart. Later he was called to serve in the Korean conflict and received a second Bronze Star. On a visit to South Korea in 1992 he was awarded special commendation by the President of South Korea in gratitude for his service to protect Democracy in Korea. He held everlasting pride in his country and his part in protecting our homeland. Bob was a member of the Palos Verdes Breakfast club for many years. Following his retirement, he also served on the Christian Action committee at Neighborhood Church and on the Board of Directors of the Association for the 106th Infantry Division.
