Robert John Liberty December 13, 1933 - November 21, 2015 Robert Jean Liberty (aka John) of Manhattan Beach, California passed away, Saturday November 21, 2015 at his home. John was born in Rhode Island to Walter and Olive Liberty. He graduated from University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and enjoyed a long career as an Engineer including owning his own small electronics firm and then as a contractor, and securing 2 patents. He met his future wife (Susan) while at Colorado and they married in 1958. Although they divorced after a decade long marriage, they had 3 children together (Jay, Joel and Jena). He bought a home in Manhattan Beach, Ca and spent over 30+ years there. He took pleasure in playing beach volleyball, bike riding and entertaining his family with a day at the beach followed by a BBQ at his house. He was a gadget enthusiast, and member of the Yeti ski club for many years. He also enjoyed the outdoors, backpacking and camping, riding motorcycles, and snow related activities such as tubing and skiing. John is survived by his son Joel and his wife Cindy, daughter Jena, 7 grandchildren (Seth, Christina, Tiffany, Jessica, Taylor, Collin, and Cade), 2 half brothers, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and son Jay (1999). A memorial service will be held on what would have been his 82nd birthday, Sunday December 13, 2015, at the home of his son Joel, 6935 Langdon Ave. Van Nuys, Ca. 91406 at 2:00 p.m. This will be an informal gathering to honor John Liberty. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in his name. He left this world earlier than expected but in his own way. When visiting the beach one can only glance at the beach water and remember his ocean blue eyes and his love of the beach.
