Richard Joseph Ohst, a 48 year resident of Rancho Palos Verdes, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2009. Richard was born in Lyons, New York in 1929. He was 79. Richard graduated from Cornell University in June 1958, after serving in the Air Force from 1946 to 1953. While in the Air Force, he married Alice Klinko of Ithaca, New York in 1951. After receiving his degree in electronic engineering, he joined Hughes Aircraft Company working in various Southern California locations on radar systems and communications satellites, retiring in 1989. Richard will best be remembered for his love of sail boat racing, and his devotion to King Harbor Yacht Club and the Southern California Yachting Association. He was a past Commodore of both organizations. He is survived by his wife Alice, son David, his wife Cathy, and son Gary. A memorial service will take place at Saint John Fischer Church, 5448 Crest Road, Rancho Palos Verdes on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. A reception will follow at noon - at King Harbor Yacht Club, 280 Yacht Club Way, Redondo Beach. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the King Harbor Yacht Club Youth Foundation, 280 Yacht Club Way, Redondo Beach, CA, 90277, (310) 376-2459.
