Webb, Richard Donald (Don) a 37 year resident of Torrance, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2006 in Torrance. A native of Los Angeles, and born on Flag Day in 1928, Don was 78 when he was called home to be with our Lord. He was a graduate of Los Angeles High School and had served in the Navy during the early 1940's. Don went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from West Coast University which led to an illustrious 40 year career in the aerospace industry. Throughout his career he worked on many significant projects, including the Apollo space program for which he received a "Silver Snoopy Award" from NASA. He retired from TRW in 1992 after 30 years. Don was an avid fan of open wheel automobile racing, having attended both the first and last race held at Ascot Park in Gardena as well as the Indy 500 on several occasions. Don was also very involved in square dancing and held several leadership positions, including President, with the Associated Square Dancers of southern California. He enjoyed country music and listened to Rush Limbaugh religiously.
He is survived by Wife of nearly 51 years, Donna Webb of Torrance, CA and Son, Ron and Daughter-in-Law Tina Webb of Murrieta, CA and four grandchildren. Preceded in death by his Father, Lonnie Webb and Mother, Valeria Webb. He will be remembered as a fantastic husband, father, and friend.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Redondo Beach on Friday, October 13, 2006 at 11:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kidney Cancer Research c/o the Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation of UCLA 8-950 Factor Los Angeles, CA 90095-1780
