It is with sadness that we tell you of the sudden passing on July 1, 2009, of our beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Uncle, but most of all Friend, Ramsay MacDonald Downie. A true Christian with a heart big enough for all who needed him, Ramsay is now in the loving embrace of our Lord, where he is at peace with his oldest son, Ramsay Jr., his parents, Ronald MacDonald Downie and Mary Nicol, as well as his beloved dog, Red. Ramsay's distinguished 42 year career as a Teamster, delivering locally to restaurants in Southern California, is something he was truly proud of. But more than that, his career as a family man, who loved the simple things in life, is what truly sets him apart as a great provider and the cornerstone of our family. A wonderful day for him was time with family and friends, reminiscing about our shared past and creating lasting memories in the present. He loved his home and sharing it with those he cared about, always generous in heart and spirit. A life-long love of all things related to autos and speed, he followed NASCAR racing and would often go to local drag races throughout his young adult life. We always knew where to find Pop the day of a big race-in his favorite chair, in the house he shared with his beautiful bride and best friend of fifty years, Sally. They were truly boyfriend and girlfriend for all the years they were blessed to be together. Born and raised on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii, in the city of Wailuku, Ramsay spent his childhood working on his family's farm doing the hard work a farm takes. He taught his children the value of that hard work and that commitment to family and friends is first in life. He graduated from Maui High in 1955 and loved keeping in touch with his classmates through email and reunions. He is survived by wife, Sally, his children, Scott, Danny, and Dorothy, and sister, Betty Osborn of Hillsboro, Oregon, and their families, including five grandchildren, Ramsay Patrick, Kelsie, Cooper, Sylvia, and Dallas. Funeral mass will be held at 6:00pm on July 8th at American Martyrs Catholic Church, 624 15th Street, Manhattan Beach, California. 13. Ramsey Downey, Not sure you can say all the things that need to be said about a person like Ramsey in a 1000 characters because it would take at least that many to just scratch the surface of who the man truly was. I was lucky to have been able to have known and worked with Ramsey starting back in 1982 at CFS. He was one of the most hard working, loyal, and gentle men I have ever know. We used to always joke about a mystery $20.00 that one of us owe the other but neither could ever remember lending. He was always their with a easy smile, and a firm handshake to help make your day a little brighter. I enjoyed each day the number of e-mails that I might get from him about anything and everything under the sun. He was the kind of friend that would call you up just to say hello, and check on you to see if you were ok if he hadn’t heard from you for a few weeks or months.. His wife Sally, like Ramsey are both two of the most enjoyable people you’ll ever meet.. The brightness of my day like many others will be a little less shiny with the passing of this great friend.. May God Bless both Ramsey, and his family, and may he help to give them the strength to bare the loss of my dear friend..

  14. Worked with Rams for a number of years, ending with Sysco. What a guy to be around and hang with. Since we both have retired from driving, we still kept in touch with each other thru e-mails and an occassional phone call. I will truly miss him at our retiree getogether. Sally , He will never be forgotten in my heart. Wishing you and family my sympathy for such a great guy.He will be surely missed. God Bless Sam Falco

  15. I am sending all my love to your entire family. Dorthy I wish I could be there with you. This world just lost a very kick butt human. Love, Andrea

  20. We are so sorry to hear of Ramsay being call home to the lord so soon in life. I can remember a time long ago when Ramsay, stayed and helped me with my ill horse “Ginger” and remarking. “What a kind and gentle man he truly was”. Sally, we wish we could be there with you during these difficult days, just know our prayers are with you always! Love Lorraine and Dawn The LORD is the WAY the TRUTH and the LIGHT.

  21. Our deepest sympathies to the Downie Family from the Buford friends, ” THE TERCERO FAMILY”. Mr.Alfredo & Mrs. Yadira, Freddie, Joey, Amelia (Mela), Julissa, and Maura, and most of all we’ll always cherish those good’le neighboorly family childhood memories.

  22. Ramsay was a year older than me (Betty and I are classmates—Maui High 1956)—will always picture him driving to school in the blue Studebaker pickup—he was a big, friendly man too—no one ever gave him any “da kine”. More recently I enjoyed talking to Ramsay both on the phone and via email—his daily jokes were always appreciated. My condolences to all—he will be missed but certainly not forgotten–We will meet again.

  23. Our family will all truly miss Ramsay and his kind & loving spirit. He loved being at home with his family, and he loved seeing his family and friends all enjoying each other. For many years, our family has been a witness to his loving spirit, and he inspired us to be kind and loving to others, also. Sally, you made a good choice with him, and the living example of love and kindness that you two set together will be with our family forever. GOD BLESS YOU. From: the Family of Rose Inniss (Rose, Natalie, Elizabeth, Noel, & Clinton)

  24. I am saddened by the news of Ramsey’s passing. Got an email from Bill White who gave a beautiful guestbook signing. I remember Ramsey always giving you a warm-hearted smile no matter what his personal statis. I remember coming over to your house and Ramsey’s beaming smile, kind of watching all of us gossiping, laughing and hanging out with a bemused smile, enjoying the activity, sitting in his beloved chair and checking out the activity and then going back to watching his sports games or NASCAR.
