pilarbatalla-bautista
Pilar Garcia Batalla Bautista (known to her friends as “Larrie”) entered eternal life on Monday, August 27, 2018. Although Pilar was 80 years old at the time, her passing was a surprise because she had the resiliency to outlive us all. Pilar was born on May 6, 1938 in Zamboanga, Philippines, to Julio Batalla and Segundina Garcia Batalla. She graduated from the College of Medicine at the University of the Philippines and was a proud member of the class of 1962. At the age of 26 she left the Philippines for the first time, arriving in the United States with $50 in her pocket to further her medical career. Pilar developed professionally with internships and residencies in Connecticut, Ottawa, and Toronto. She then sacrificed her career to raise her three children, Maria Teresa, Reuben Paulo, and Christopher Albert, a selfless move for which her children are forever grateful. Pilar retired in Rolling Hills Estates, California, bringing her close to the Pacific Ocean, which she loved since a child. She remained a voracious reader and loved to spend her days in the library. Pilar joins her parents and siblings Tomas, Vicente, Julio Jr., and Romeo in eternity, leaving behind her children, siblings Josefina, Consolacion, and Luis, as well as many nieces and nephews who brought her great joy. The family will hold funeral services for Pilar on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Rice Mortuary, 5310 Torrance Blvd, Torrance, CA 90503. A viewing will occur from 4:00 to 5:45 pm, followed by services at 6:00 pm, and ending with a reception. Anyone is welcome to donate in memory of Pilar to the American Cancer Society, the Terry Fox Foundation, the Salvation Army, or any charity of choice. Pilar will be interred at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. Pilar’s family is comforted in knowing that she is surrounded by God’s love and that her view of the ocean is unparalleled.
