Rau, Phyllis Lorine, a 69 year resident of the South Bay, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2010 in Redondo Beach. Born in Riley County, Kansas, Phyllis was 89 when she died. Phyllis taught school in a single-room school house in Kansas. She loved taking care of her home and garden. She spent many years on the Redondo Beach Election Board, and was a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Phyllis is survived by her son, Craig (Robin) Rau of Redondo Beach, CA; sister, Sonja (Jack) Ehrhart of Kansas City, MO; and two grandchildren: Kevin and Eric. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Fred Frauenfelder; her sisters LaVaun and Alice; and her husband of 50 years, Lawrence, who passed away in 1992. A gathering of family & friends will be held at White and Day Colonial Mortuary in Redondo Beach on Tuesday April 6, 2010 from 4 to 8pm. The Service will be held at the Mortuary on Wednesday at 10am. Burial will be private at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.

  1. We were raised thinking that Phyllis and Larry were family, and, in fact, they were considered so by my family. I loved to receive her beautiful notes and cards. She will be missed.

  2. Condolences on your loss, I can remember when one of her turtles escaped and I had to watch it for 3 days. I had no clue that she had turtles. It was the one with the broken shell. God bless your mother Thomas Teora 2911 perkins ln rb.

  3. Phyllis was the first person to welcome us to the neighborhood. She was a sweet, elegant lady. We had many conversations about gardening and about her beloved Dodgers. Our son, Lucas enjoyed going next door and giving her hugs, and talking to her. Our family will miss her.
