Phyllis Elaine Thompson

Phyllis Elaine Thompson July 28, 1928 – May 2, 2014 The world has lost a great lady. Phyllis Thompson of Torrance passed away May 2, 2014 after a brief but valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her husband and sweetheart of 64 years, Charles, daughter Connie Thompson McKinney and husband John, granddaughter Lauren, brother Ron Gordon and family, along with many nieces and nephews living in the Midwest. Born in Alida, Minnesota, Peggy and her family moved to Bemidji, Minnesota during her teenage years and this is where she met and fell in love with Charles. Married after his return from service with the USMC in World War II, they moved to California in 1950 settling first in Hawthorne then purchasing their Torrance residence of 60 years. Peggy worked for various companies as key punch operator and an administrative assistant for many years where she was recognized for not only the quality of her work but her outstanding work ethic. Peggy was a gentle, kind, and considerate lady who adored her family. She especially enjoyed her weekly "girls day" out with Connie which they were able to do this for many happy years. Another bright spot of her life was granddaughter Lauren and sadly, she will miss Lauren's July 18 wedding. Attending this ceremony was the goal and focus of her battle. She may not be with us in body but will in spirit and in our memories. We are all better people for having Phyllis Elaine Thompson touch our lives. A memorial service is planned on Friday, May 9 at Rice Mortuary at 5310 Torrance Blvd, Torrance 90503 at 11:00 AM. A private internment ceremony will follow at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach.
