Resided in: Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

Dr. Patrick Carroll Donegan, a 45 year resident of the South Bay and member of St. John Fisher parish, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2008. Patrick was born in County Louth, Ireland and attended Castleknock College before obtaining his Doctorate in Medicine at University College Dublin. He moved to London to pursue studies in the Ear, Nose and Throat specialty. It was in London at a Catholic social club for young professionals that Pat met his wife Breda Mary Finn. They fell in love and were married in London. They moved to Lancashire where their daughter Denise was born. In response to a physician shortage in the 1950s they immigrated to the United States, moving first to Baltimore then Manhattan Beach and finally Palos Verdes. Paul, Barry and James were born during this time. He loved his adopted country and was grateful for the opportunities it provided. He began a general practice in Hawthorne and was a true "family doctor," adored by his many patients. Following the passage of the HMO Act of 1973, he was one of seven founders of the HMO, Maxicare and Hawthorne Community Medical Group. Although a brave and pioneering move on his part, he deeply missed the special bond he had with his patients and staff in his solo practice. He loved all sports and was one of the first AYSO coaches in PV. However it was golf that he loved more than any sport and he was a charter member of Rolling Hills Country Club. Patrick was devoted to his family and his faith. He truly loved his four children, Denise, Paul, Barry and James, his eight grandchildren, Jillian, Paige, Ryan, Sean, Jennifer, Patrick, Julia and Ciara and his beautiful daughters in law, Dana, Andrea and Terri with all his heart. The greatest love of his life will always be his wonderful wife, Breda. No truer love could you find. His ashes will be buried in Monasterboice, County Louth, Ireland.
