Patricia Louise Hocker passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at age 72 at home from cancer. Born in Akron, Ohio, she moved to Hermosa Beach with her sister, June MacDowall, and parents Genevieve and Frank Piazza in 1945. A second sister, Jodi Vihavainen (Pasi) of Oregon, was born a few years later. Patty graduated from Redondo Union High School in 1954. She married Guy Hocker, Jr. in 1955, and had four children: Gayle Labrana, Cheryl Bitten, Carol Kiyan and Guy Hocker, III. She had Carlos, Bob, Paul Sr. and Kathy as loved in-laws. She was known to her 17 grandchildren as "Gramma Perfect," and she was certainly deserving of that title. David, Paul Jr. Danae, Jeffrey, Gabriela, Michelle, Kaitlin, Bucky, Jay, Ruben, Elise, Tina, Lauren, Uilani, Neal, Anton, and Haley will have fondest memories of times at Gramma's house. In 1988 she met the second love of her life, David Flanders. She and David enjoyed the last 20 years entertaining, gardening, home decorating, and motor-homing together. Patty was an excellent homemaker, and her house was always the place of choice for the gatherings of family and friends. She was an avid crossword puzzle solver, working the Sunday Times puzzle effortlessly, always encouraging those who watched on that they should keep their minds active and open. She had many friends and fond memories of her times as a bowler and bridge player. She traveled the world with friends and family to Hawaii, Alaska, the South Seas, New Zealand, Europe, South America, and Africa. Everyone who knew Patty was touched in a unique way. She will be missed by all. A remembrance gathering of family & friends will be held at her home on December 6, 2008.
