Resided in: Rolling Hills Estates, CA

Patricia Jeannette Meehan, age 77, passed away peacefully at home in Rolling Hills Estates, CA on July 14, 2017, surrounded by her family. Patricia was born to Robert and Margaret (Brown) Johnson in Bellingham, WA on September 5, 1939. The oldest of 15 children, she graduated from St. Mary’s High School and attended Western Washington University. While living in Seattle and working as a medical secretary, she met and married Richard Meehan in 1962, and, after several moves, they settled in Southern California. Together they had 6 children. In 1972, Pat and Rich made a Marriage Encounter retreat weekend, and were moved to serve other married couples. After helping to start Engaged Encounter (E.E.), they became coordinators for the 12 western states, bringing E.E. to Canada, Ireland, and Hawaii. Pat loved to travel, especially with her family. She and Rich traveled extensively with E.E., then followed their children wherever they landed - South Bend, IN, Ireland, New York City, Philadelphia, Germany, Switzerland. A parishioner at St. John Fisher Church since 1966, Pat served on the Women’s Council for several years. She volunteered at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach. Pat had a wonderful sense of humor, and was not afraid to be silly. She loved to dance, shop, and was extremely thoughtful. She delighted in making others feel special. She was an award-winning photographer, a fantastic cook and an accomplished baker. But Pat found her true calling when she became a grandmother. She took on the role with enthusiasm much to the delight of her grateful children. She earned the nickname "Baby Whisperer" because no baby would fuss in her arms. Pat’s greatest accomplishment by far is raising her children to love God, love each other, and live their lives in service to others. Pat is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Johnson, her father, Robert E. Johnson, her step-mother, Mary Johnson, her brother-in-law, Steve Aubert, and her grandson, Seamus Meehan. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Meehan, her children Meg Meehan, Mike (Wendy) Meehan, Mollie (John) Baumer, Kerry (John) McOsker, Amy (Tony Echevarria) Meehan, James (Kristin) Meehan, and her 20 grandchildren, Ellie, Mary Kate and Gracie Underhill, Caity Cappadona and Lizzy Meehan, Maxwell, Delaney and Jack Henry Baumer, Cormac, Aidan, Ronan and Finn McOsker, Bella and Olivia Pilon and PJ Echevarria, Charlie, Julia, Annabelle, Claudia and Baby Girl (due in Oct.) Meehan. The Rosary will be held on Friday, July 21 at 7pm, and the Funeral will be on Saturday, July 22 at 11am, both at St. John Fisher Church, 5448 Crest Rd., Rancho Palos Verdes.
