Gasaway, Ovando Hubert, a 64 year resident of Manhattan Beach, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 in Torrance. Born in Big Heart, OK, Van was 91 when he died. He had served in the Army Air Corp. as a tail gunner during World War II. A bellhop, waiter, welder, aerial gunner, manager at Pepsi, route salesman at 7-Up, restaurant manager, restaurant owner and cook were occupations that kept him busy throughout his life. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, working with wood, and watching the squirrels and hummingbirds out his window. Van is survived by wife, Tharon Gasaway of Manhattan Beach, CA, sister-in-law, Bettye Sweeten of Carson and niece and her husband, Sue and Phil Cohen of Monarch Beach, CA. He was preceded in death by parents, Esther and Ovando Gasaway. A gathering of family & friends will be held at White & Day Mortuary in Manhattan Beach on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. The Service will be held graveside at Riverside National Cemetery on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 1:45 P.M. Burial will immediately follow.
