Sweet Aunt Minnie passed away peacefully yesterday, October 26, at 9:35am. She was 90 years old. Minnie was born August 14, 1921 in New York City to Ida Tobias and Barnet Friedman. Day after day for the last four years, she was speechless 95% of the time. She was fed, bathed and loved by the Torrance Care Center staff and Vitals Hospice staff. Minnie never complained, and spoke with her smile and bright blue eyes. Her eyes shined each time I walked through that door. She could mouth I love you almost every visit. She appreciated everything that was done for her. She always had her nails painted pink and was surrounded by her fury friend, Buddy, Minnie and Mickey. She lived a simple life, worked hard to support herself, always a single woman, without any surviving family. She was a foreman for Empire Bloomers in New York City fashion istrict for more than 40 years. She moved to Redondo Beach, California in 1999 to be with her adoptive family, as she aged. She was a good friend to our family, kind and generous. Even though she had little she always wanted to share it. There was a place for her at every holiday and we shared many wonderful memories. Tab was her favorite drink, Cherry Herring was her favorite cordial and she would buy a bottle every Christmas. Pink was her favorite color, Hawaii was here favorite place to visit, pasta and pizza with lots of mushrooms were her favorite foods. She hated vegetables especially the green ones! She loved music and sang along joyously even though she couldn't sing. Buddy, her favorite stuffed animal kept her company so she was never alone.
