Mila' Bozena (Prochazkova) Bobek 1948-2008 Mila Bozena Bobek died at 1:10 A.M. Sunday, September 28, 2008, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, at her home in Torrance, California, where she had resided with her husband, Josef Bobek, for the past 26 years. At the time of her death, Mila was being cared for by her family, with the assistance of Reza Moreno. Mila was 60 years at the time of her death. Miloslava Bozena Prochazkova was born on March 9, 1948 at a hospital in Cesky Brod, Czech Republic, near the family home. She was the first of two children, (both daughters), born to Marie (Knizkova) Prochazkova and Ladislav Prochazkova. Mila was raised on the family farm that has been in the Prochazka family since the 12th Century. She met her future husband, 'Josef' Zdenek Bobek in 1966 when he came into the area to ride and train horses. Mila & Josef were married on September 3, 1966, and had two children, Mila and Josef. On April 24, 1978, Mila, Josef and their two young children, Mila, 11, and Joe, 3, left the Czech Republic and crossed the Iron Curtain into Germany and eventually emigrated to the United States. The family settled in the South Bay Area of Los Angeles in 1982. Mila worked as a dietitian at the San Pedro Peninsula Hospital. For a number of years, Mila & Josef owned and operated a restaurant in Redondo Beach. In 1985 Mila started to work for the Computer Sciences Corporation, (CSC), in El Segundo, California, as the Executive Chef, and remained there for 14 years. Mila was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease more than six years ago. Her family decided to care for her in the family home so that she would be in familiar surroundings. Mila liked to cook, garden, crochet, knit and travel, but foremost, she enjoyed being with her family. She liked to take walks on the beach with her husband. But most of all Mila especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Mila is survived by her husband, 'Josef' Zdenek Bobek,; daughter, Mila (Bobek) Thomas and her husband, 'Robert' Christopher Thomas, Jr., son, Joe Bobek and his wife, Anne Elizabeth (Karr) Bobek; grandchildren 'John' Wesley Thomas, 'Emily' Ruth Thomas, Barrett Josef Bobek; Michael Antony Ortega, Robert Christopher Thomas III, 'Rebekah' Ann (Thomas) Hayes and her husband Eric Hayes; great granddaughter, Madeline Ann "Maddie" Hayes; sister, Dr. Ladislava (Prochazkova) Michalkova, MD, and her husband Jaroslav Michalek;Zdenek Bobek;brother-in-law; and nephews, Tomas Michalek, Zdenek Bobek and Pavel Bobek. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Rice Mortuary Chapel, 5310 Torrance Boulevard, Torrance, CA 90503, Phone: 310-792-7599, on Saturday, October 11, 2008, at 2:00 PM. Interment will be privately held at the Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275, Phone: 310-831-0311.
