Bernal, Mercedes, a 42 year resident of Lomita, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2008, peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Mercedes was born in Havana, Cuba on December 3, 1916. She is survived by her 3 children; Jose A. Bernal Jr., Rafael F. Bernal, Julie Flynn, her brother Roberto Beato, her eight grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, as well as her extended family and loving friends. Mercedes was a member of the Nativity Catholic Church for many years and very active in the religious community. Mercedes was a woman of unshakeable faith and spirituality. She worked for the County of Los Angeles for 13 years as a Social Worker, and spent the remaining years of her life enjoying time with her beloved family and friends. The Rosary will be held Friday night, January 11, 2008 at White and Day Colonial Chapel at 6:00 pm located at 901 Torrance Blvd. in Redondo Beach, California. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 12, 2008, At Nativity Catholic Church at 9:00 am. Internment will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City. Flowers may be sent to White and Day Colonial Chapel.
