  1. I was greatly saddened to learn of Mel’s passing. I’ve known Mel for over 30 years, most of which we’ve spent arguing. We didn’t always agree on things, but I always respected his opinion and he was always a great friend. After both of us retired, he started consulting for our customer and I began consulting for the firm I had worked for, The Boeing Co. He wanted to limit his work to certain heat transfer hardware, which just happened to be my specialty. As such, we made many trips to Maryland together to beat up the supplier, and always found time to go out to dinner and lunch together. Both I and the engineering profession will greatly miss Mel.
