Mel Hamilton, a longtime resident of Manhattan Beach CA, passed away on June 15, 2016 in Torrance, CA. He was preceded in death by Barbara, his wife of 44 years. Raised in South Gate, Mel was a 1956 graduate of South Gate High. In the late 50's, he was a member of the Counts Car Club Assn. and received first place in a 1957 fuel economy competition from Pasadena to Las Vegas. He also served in the U.S. Army at Fort Ord and Camp Roberts in the early 60's. Mel was a Design Engineer for many years, working on components of various commercial and military aircraft. He enjoyed vintage aircraft, woodworking, playing tennis, bowling, racquetball and camping. He will be deeply missed by son Ken (Kara), granddaughter Amber, his brother Martin (Donna), sisters-in-law Nancy Cummings (Allen) and Lee Hanley (Steve), his dear friend and devoted caregiver Toan, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be private.

  1. I am so sorry to hear of your passing. I did want to meet you on better circumstances. I guess the time just wasn’t right when I was 18. You were suspicious, I understand that. Well, I hope you are with the lord and resting. Your biological daughter.
