Maude B. Hansen 1906 - 2008 Maude Hansen passed away, at her home in Manhattan Beach, California, on August 17, 2008, at the age of 102 years. Mrs. Hansen was born near Odense, Denmark, on January 2, 1906. Maude and her first husband ran the family's Danish bakery, while they began raising their two children. She and her family immigrated to the United States in 1937, initially settling in Indiana. Ms. Hansen moved to Manhattan Beach, in 1944, buying an ocean view lot for a couple hundred dollars. Maude became a citizen of the United States, and worked North American Aviation, including throughout WWII. But she did not take her first airplane ride until she was 80 years old, when she visited her home country of Denmark. Mrs. Hansen performed with the Aquadettes senior synchronized swim team and performed charitable volunteer work, including raising funds to provide Seeing Eye Dogs. At her 100th Birthday Party, in 2006, Maude was joined by the Mayor of Manhattan Beach, and received congratulatory letters from the Governor of California and every living U.S. President. Mrs. Hansen is survived by her son, Dr. Leon and Shirley Hansen of Manhattan Beach, California, and by her daughter, Anita Hansen, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Maude was the proud grandmother of Mark Hansen, Michelle Ruppert, and John Davis. She also had several great grand children, including Devan Friday, and David and Grant Sloan, as well as one great, great grand child, Rayn Horth. No public services are planned at this time.
