Hartney, Mary Perkins, born April 23, 1923 in Memphis, Tennessee, passed away in Torrance, CA on Friday, July 21, 2006. Mary was married to her husband of fifty-four years, James Edmund Hartney of Buffalo, NY, who preceded her in death. Mary was an inspiration in life and death, and loved to travel far and wide visiting family and friends. Mary moved from Lakeland, FL to Torrance to be near her family, which includes ten children, twenty-six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by her ten children and their spouses, including: Barbara and Dr. Kenneth Deal of Winona, Ontario, Canada; Linda Hartney-Purdy and David Purdy of Cypress, CA; Kathryn and Joseph Herman of Atlanta, GA; Mary Guthrie of Midlothian, VA; James and Ardis Hartney of Baltimore, MD; Janis Davis of Redondo Beach, CA; Anne and Michael Mayes of Whidbey Island, WA; Mark Hartney of Yorktown, VA; Marian Fritz of Westfield, NJ; Martha Hartney-Schatzle of Longmont, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hartney, of Lakeland, FL; her parents, A.H.D. Perkins and Mary Perkins; and son-in-law, Glenn Davis. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rice Mortuary Torrance, California. Inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
