Mary Lou Leovy Sept. 25, 1911-Feb. 15, 2007 Born in Gervais in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, Mary Lou Pfau grew up on her parents’ farm with twelve brothers and sisters. As a young woman she moved to California to study at the Southern California Bible College in Pasadena with the intent to become a missionary, but moved to Hermosa Beach in 1935 to care for the two small sons of James Leovy whose wife had recently died. She married James in 1959, was widowed in 1980, and has lived almost continuously in her home in Hermosa since 1935. Mary Lou had a deep faith in God, a love of people, especially children, and the beauty of nature around her, particularly the ocean at her front door. She was renowned for her roses and her orchids, but most of all she was known for her joy in living, her gentle kindness, and her faith. She leaves beloved stepsons James Leovy, Jr. and Conway, grandchildren Joanne, Katie, Steven, John, Jill, and Suzanne, brothers Tom, Joe, and Paul, sister Ann, seven great-grandchildren, and beloved nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 3, 2007 at St. Cross Episcopal Church in Hermosa Beach, CA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Los Angeles Childrens Hospital or the Samaritan's Purse. "So faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians, 13:13.
