Mary G.
Mary G. Sullivan Mary G. “Gerry” Sullivan, a 58-year resident of Torrance, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 89 years old. She was born in Detroit, Michigan and moved to South Boston as a young girl. She was a “Southie” girl - which never changed. Her “accent” was one that would never falter. At 16, working behind the lunch counter at a Five & Dime store in Boston, she met the man she would later spend her life with. After two children, they moved across country to Southern California where they continued to expand their family. She ran a happy family on a shoestring budget with a lot of Irish luck and quiet ease, as our father kept life fun with wit and humor, to balance an amazing marriage of 61 years and a total of 66 years together. She was a great wife, mom, grandma and great grandma to all her family. Looking back, we are really the lucky ones. In addition to raising her children, after the youngest was independent, she worked for almost 20 years as a Teacher and then Assistant Director at Playhouse Preschool in Torrance, caring for other family’s young children. Mary is survived by her children: Steven Sullivan of Port Costa, CA: Maureen (Jon) LaTendresse of Camas, WA: Kathy Sullivan of Draper, UT: Eileen (Kevin) Rockey of Torrance, CA; Brian (Melanie) Sullivan of La Mirada, CA; grandchildren Tim (Misti) Sullivan, Kristin (Sean) Hermanny, Shannon LaTendresse, Brandon (Jovelyn) Sullivan, Tyler Sullivan, Chad (Kaitlin) Sullivan, Kyle Sullivan, Derrick (Sara) Rockey and Matthew Rockey; 9 great grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul and their daughter Patsy. Mass will be held at St. Lawrence Martyr Church, Redondo Beach, California on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 2:00pm with a reception immediately following in the Sullivan Family home. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Catherine Laboure Church c/o Parish office 3846 Redondo Beach Blvd., Torrance, CA 90504.
