Mary F. Buffalo "Buffy" Mary Frances Buffalo, 65, born in Torrance, California, and a long-time resident of San Pedro, passed away on Thursday July 8th in Torrance after a long bout with liver cancer. Daughter of the late Anthony B. and the late Frances M. Buffalo, Mary is survived by her sisters Lillian Tompkins of Laurel, Maryland, and Margaret McGraw of Torrance, a niece, nephews, great-nieces and -nephew, numerous cousins, other relations, and cherished friends. Her brothers Richard and Joseph preceded Mary in death. Ms. Buffalo was a graduate of Nativity Catholic School, Bishop Montgomery High School, and CSU/Dominguez Hills. She was for many years an elementary school teacher before a second career at Rockwell International. Rice Mortuary of Torrance will handle private arrangements. It is Mary's wish that those who desire to honor her memory may do so by giving a friend a hug, reading to a child, thanking a favorite teacher, reciting a Mattie Stepanek poem, saying a prayer while watching the sun set at White Point Park, or sharing funny stories and laughing along with her. Gestures of remembrance in her honor may be made through donations to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange (480 South Batavia St., Orange, CA 92868; or the American Cancer Society ( A memorial service and reception for family and friends will take place on Saturday, August 28th, at 2:00 p.m., at the Motherhouse Chapel of the Sisters of St. Joseph (of Orange, CA).
