Markolita Dyess Adams Markolita was born on March 5, 1924 in Webb, Mississippi, to Louise Savage Dyess and Robert Hitt Dyess. She was the third of six children. She attended schools in Sumner and Webb, MS. She graduated from Webb-Swan Lake High School in 1941 and majored in Bacteriology and Chemistry at Mississippi State College for Women (now Mississippi University for Women.) She was an active member of the Wesley Foundation, and a member of the Methodist Church. After receiving her B.S. degree in 1945, she took a position at the Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee as a Medical Technologist. In Memphis she met and married Andrew Jackson Adams, who was a Captain in the Air Transport Command at nearby Millington, TN. He preceded her in death in 1992, after 44 years of marriage. With her husband. she moved to Torrance, California in 1948, and was employed at the “old” Torrance Memorial Hospital on Engracia Avenue where she worked for 20 years. She has been a resident of Redondo Beach since 1953. She is survived by her two children, Robert Rowlett Adams of Auburn, CA, and Suzanne Adams George of Redondo Beach; her grandson, Richard Adams of Blue Eye, MO; one great-grandson, Bradley Adams; her two sisters, Lenrose Jahiel of Urbana, IL and Corrinne Lee of Cascade, ID; and a brother, Robert Shoffner Dyess of Elkins, AR. Her special interests were first of all her family, her Church, the Church Circle, and the Redondo Beach Woman's Club. She was active in many ways, giving of herself in any activity where she could serve others. When there was personal time or energy left, she enjoyed handwork, baking, and gardening. Always an example of love, service, and responsibility, she will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be Sunday, November 30, from 12:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the White and Day Colonial Mortuary, 901 Torrance Blvd., Redondo Beach, CA 90277. Graveside services will be Monday, December 1, at 1:00 P.M. at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Hospice Foundation, 2601 Airport Dr., Suite 230, Torrance, CA 90505, or to the First United Methodist Church, 243 S. Broadway, Redondo Beach, CA 90277.

  1. Sometime before his death in c.735, Bede wrote the following prayer: “I beseech you, good Jesus, that as you have graciously granted to me here on earth to enjoy the sweetness of your wisdom and truth, so at death you will bring me into your presence, that I may see the beauty of your face, and listen to your voice which is the source of all wisdom and truth.” To this I can only add AMEN. “GOD BLESS”

  2. Although it has been many (too many) years since I have seen Mrs. Adams, she has never been far from my heart. I have thought about her and the family many, many times in the years that have past. John and I send our heartfelt condolences to Sue, Bob and the family in their loss of a truly wonderful person.
