December 17, 1955 ~ December 11, 2020

Born in: Los Angeles , California
Resided in: Redondo Beach, California

Mark Alan Perong passed away peacefully on December 11, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Los Angeles, California in 1955, the youngest of Harold and Marjorie Perong’s three children.  Mark grew up in the Ladera area where he was graduated from Inglewood High School in 1974.

At age 16, Mark began working with his father and grandfather in the family business, the R.J. Daum Construction Company.  Mark attended El Camino College and completed his degree while working full time.  Mark was devoted to the Company and eventually became president of the firm.

Mark married Nancy Sellars in 1982 and had two beautiful daughters, Michelle and Christina.  Their more than thirty eight years together were filled with joyful times including traveling, skiing, soccer games and weekends at their retreat in Bullhead City, on the Colorado River.  Mark and Nancy were equal partners, sharing their professional responsibilities with their domestic ones.   He was a dedicated family man and enjoyed cooking for and entertaining family and their many friends.  This included regular Sunday dinners for his extended family.

The Perong’s attended Knox Presbyterian Church, where Mark made lifelong friends.  When it came to friends and family, Mark was always more concerned with others than himself.  Mark’s father passed away earlier this year, and despite Mark’s medical problems, he tirelessly attended to his every need.  Mark, like his father, continued to manage the Company until the time of his passing.

Mark is survived by his wife Nancy, his daughters Michelle (Brandon White) and Christina, his sisters Susan Perong and Cheryl Lavin (Mark) and nephews Jonathan and Michael Reynolds, Tim Lelchuk and Andrew Lavin.

  5. Nancy, Michelle and Christina- my deepest sympathies and condolences- I am deeply saddened, as I just received your card and did not know mark had been ill. We haven’t stayed in very good touch over the past several years; but I have so many fond memories as Mark and I were roommates way back when and had many, many good times together. Listening to Firefall non-stop, playing volleyball on the beach and hanging out in Manhattan Beach.

Rest in Peace my good old friend and comrade.
