Marjorie Ashen

Marjorie Morrow Ashen was born in Los Angeles on June 28, 1913. A loving, kind and generous person, she passed away in her sleep on March 12, 2003, at her home in Hermosa Beach where she had lived since 1948. Marge graduated from the Marlborough School in Los Angeles in 1930 and from UCLA in 1934. She married Donald Ashen in July 1942, and they had 47 wonderful years together until his death in April 1990. During the years they spent together, Marge and Don traveled the world, saw decades of UCLA football and basketball games, and always found time to enjoy their family and friends. At various stages of her life, Marge was involved with the Girls Scouts, Alpha Phi sorority, Native Daughters of the Golden West, Las Quince Damas, the Hermosa Beach Garden Club, Friends of the Library, and the Hermosa Beach Lawn Bowling Club. She leaves her loving daughters, Marina Marrelli and Lenore Welbourn, son-in-law Thomas Welbourn, and her three cherished granddaughters whom she loved ''a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck,'' Marilena Marrelli, Adriana Marrelli and Katie Welbourn. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2003, at Mariners Church, 5001 Newport Coast Drive, Irvine, CA. Because Marge loved to read and garden, we suggest that in lieu of sending flowers, contributions be made to your favorite library or garden club.
